This passage right here – “My dad has always been his own tree — with thick branches, a sturdy trunk, and low leaves of a million shades of green. There have been times in my life when I have been so distracted that I failed to notice the shade looming over me, and how harshly the sun shone elsewhere.“ speaks in volumes! I am stunned by your beautiful word choice and imagery, it evokes very vivid, well-known emotions. Such a heartwarming, relatable publication. 💌🫂 (and congrats on seeing jbrekkie, i‘d love that too!!)
i often fight with my dad. sometimes they are light fights, filled with mischief and hearty laughter, other become more serious and tense, like...real fights. when you said it, "dad's lectures", i smiled because that term is oh-so-too-familiar around here, and usually they proceed a fight. it's funny, my dad seems the opposite of yours personality wise, but they speak the same language... small acts as a way of loving, as if saying 'i'll always remember'. maybe it's a trait you win when you become a father, who knows .-.
lovely letter, as per usual :) and ahhh japanese breakfast! hearing be sweet live must've been wonderful!!!!
thank you ines! i've fought with my dad a lot too (as a daughter often does) but i've learned to understand him more as i've gotten older. i think it comes with realising how much of him is in me lol. (be sweet was amazing!!!!!! i was sadly still in the merch line LOL but i'm seeing her again in october so i will fully commit then)
As usual, Tara, your reflections are so ‘spot on.’ I always felt kind of sad for your dad participating in GS activities with the GS moms. He is quiet but when he speaks out it was usually impactful. He knew what was going on.
